Erik Ten Hag details frustrating Anthony Martial's persistent injury

Erik ten Hag has commented on Anthony Martial's persistent injuries this season.

Given his terrible availability thus far in the 2022–2023 season, the Frenchman's status at Manchester United appears uncertain. As a result, Ten Hag signed Wout Weghorst on a temporary basis from Burnley during the winter transfer season, and the Dutchman has started each game since then.

Martial has missed 26 games thus far due to various injuries, and January marked his last league appearance for the team.

The forward has had brief cameos, but when he has played, he has looked impressive and has racked up six goals and two assists across all categories.

At the end of the season, Ten Hag will be faced with a critical choice regarding Martial's future at Old Trafford. This summer, a new attacker is at the top of his wish list, and the 27-year-old may not be content to be a backup No. 9.

During this week's pre-game media conference, which was aired on MUTV, Ten Hag was questioned about Martial's availability.

“[In the] first place, it’s frustrating for himself," Erik Ten Hag replied.

"He is the player who is most in the gym, he doesn’t want to be there, he wants to be on the pitch. But of course, our team, in the first place, it’s frustrating, secondly, [it is] for the manager as well because when your best players are available, you have more chance of winning games.”

“I only have to refer to Liverpool [at] home, Man City [at] home when he was available. He makes a difference, but we spoke before, that’s the same for Casemiro, for Eriksen, who are very important players. But, when they are not available, we still have to win.” he explained.
