Chelsea set to hijack £70 million Goncalo Ramos deal from SL Benfica amid Man United's negotiations

Goncalo Ramos, an attacker on fire for Benfica, is the target of a summer transfer by Chelsea as they search for a new number nine.

The 21-year-old Portuguese international is regarded as a potential replacement for Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen, and Benfica expects to pay roughly £70 million for him, according to Football Insider.

Goncalo Ramos will be the less expensive choice because the Italian club is set to demand closer to £105 million for its Nigerian forward. According to reports, Manchester United sees the Benfica forward as a backup player.

The Red Devils have long been interested in Tottenham's and England's all-time leading scorer Harry Kane, but if their chase falls through, they might also go to Ramos as they look for a new striker.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea have well-known issues up front, and both teams will want to improve that area this summer in order to contend for the league's top spot the following season.

One of the main causes of the club's poor performance this season has been Chelsea's striker problems and inability to produce goals. With only 29 goals scored in 29 games, the team is now in 11th place in the Premier League, worse than relegation-threatened clubs Leicester City and Leeds United.

Only seven goals in the top level have been scored by regular striker Kai Havertz, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was brought in from Barcelona to help with the goal burden, has only scored once.

A fresh goal scorer is also necessary for Manchester United. The club has been without a reliable striker since Erik Ten Hag's public fallout with Cristiano Ronaldo last year and the former Real Madrid player's subsequent transfer to Qatar.

Wout Weghorst, a Dutch international who was brought in on loan from Burnley to fill that role, is not the perfect leading number nine because he has yet to score a Premier League goal. One of the most talented strikers right now in Europe is Goncalo Ramos.

At the World Cup this winter, the Benfica star made a stunning entrance, scoring a hat trick against Switzerland in the Round of 16. The 21-year-old Ramos' stock has increased significantly as a result of the 21-year-old's 25 goals and 10 assists throughout 37 appearances for his team this season.

The two teams most likely considering a transfer for Ramos in the summer are Chelsea and Manchester United. Meanwhile, reports earlier this week suggested that SL Benfica has agreed to negotiate with Manchester United over a £70 million transfer deal for the Portuguese international ahead of the summer transfer window.

Goncalo Ramos, who is wanted by Manchester United, could cost SL Benfica £70 million, according to reports flying around the media. Goncalo Ramos of SL Benfica may be available to Manchester United for £70 million if the Primeira Liga team agrees to the asking price, reports Football Insider (via Manchester Evening News).

The current deal for the international player from Portugal has a £105 million release clause and continues through the summer of 2026. However, the Eagles are willing to settle for considerably less to release the 21-year-old.

The Portuguese player rose through Benfica's youth levels. The youngster was a consistent part of the senior squad for the Primeira Liga team during the previous season. Darwin Nunez, however, served as their guardian at the time.

However, the 21-year-old has replaced the Uruguayan star, who joined Liverpool last summer, this season. The attacker has emerged as Roger Schmidt's team's captain as well.
