18 year old Alejandro Gernacho pens new long term contract with Manchester United

Mancheter United's youngster Alejandro Gernacho has finally penned a new contract at Mancheter United which will keep him at the club until 2028.

Via a statement released on manunited.com, the club's official website; the Mancheter based club announced that the young Argentine has committed his future to Old Trafford for the next five years.

"Manchester United is pleased to announce that Alejandro Garnacho has signed a new contract that will extend his stay at the club until 30 June 2028," the statement reads.


"The Academy graduate has already made 31 appearances for the senior team, at the age of 18.

“When I joined this incredible club, I dreamt of achieving my debut, playing at Old Trafford, scoring my first goal and winning trophies with this badge on my chest," he said.

“I feel very proud and emotional to have experienced these moments already, together with my family who have supported me every step of the way."

"We are all humbled to have this chance to continue our journey at Manchester United and I have already begun to work on achieving the next set of targets and ambitions."

“The manager and his coaching staff have helped me to improve in every way, and with their support, I am developing each day to help the team to be successful. 

“I am relishing the future and can’t wait to create more special memories with this group, in front of our amazing supporters.”

Mancheter United's Football director John Murtough in his statement offers explaination to why the former Atletico Madrid's Youth team star was given a new contract.

“Alejandro has really dedicated himself to achieving the objectives that the club set out for him since he arrived in Manchester."

“His talent, drive and determination to succeed saw him quickly progress from our Academy into the first team, and this new long-term contract reflects our confidence in him to continue his exciting development under the guidance of Erik and his staff."

“Alejandro has huge potential, and we are all looking forward to working with him to ensure he can fulfil his ambitions here at Manchester United in the coming years.” 


Alejandro Gernacho is expected to remain at Mancheter United for the rest of the season after the club rejected Argentina Under-20 national team request for his services in the upcoming Under-20 FIFA World Cup.

Erik Ten Hag confirmed during his press conference that the winger is not going to be released, henceforth, remains with the Old Trafford outfit. 

"No we don’t release him (to play at the Under-20 World Cup)," Erik Ten Hag replied to a question regarding the player going for the Under-20 FIFA World Cup tournament during his press conference on Friday afternoon.

“He will return tomorrow in team training, partially. Then we will have to see when he can return totally in the training, and back into games," he added.

Argentina and United discussed Garnacho's participation in the Under-20 World Cup in his home nation; according to reports in South America, manager Javier Mascherano intervened personally and the teenager expressed a desire to participate. Ten Hag, though, claims he will continue to play for United.

Alejandro Garnacho would have missed the FA Cup final versus Manchester City on June 3 and the conclusion of the Premier League season because the event starts on May 20.
