Alejandro Gernacho set to return against Aston Villa as Erik Ten Hag hails Bruno for playing through pains versus Tottenham

Bruno Fernandes began and played the full game as United and Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 on Thursday in the Premier League. The 28-year-old was questionable heading into the game after suffering an ankle injury in his team's FA Cup semifinal triumph against Brighton & Hove Albion last Sunday.

This season, he has only been absent from three games, two of which (against Sevilla and Aston Villa) were because of a suspension. Additionally, he has not missed any Premier League games due to injury.

"He showed how great a captain he is," Ten Hag said of the Portugal international.

“I think as Man United and as a top team then you have to compete and go for the win in every competition you are in, so that’s what we are doing,” said Ten Hag.

“That is the culture we want to construct, so that is what we are doing. It has to be in the mindset of every player and every employee who is working for Manchester United.”

"It was tough, a big compliment on Bruno. He absolutely doesn’t want to miss this game and he did everything to get fit."

“I think he is the example, and that you have to suffer and you have to sacrifice when you want to play on the top level, you want to achieve something."

“So once again he showed there how great a captain he is, how he has taken responsibility, even when he is not 100 per cent fit."

“But he did the job, he was important in this game as well. Hopefully the team can, not learn, but see him as an inspiration and do the same.”

Erik Ten Hag issues positive update about Alejandro Gernacho

Alejandro Garnacho, a winger for Manchester United, will not be permitted to leave training to represent Argentina in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, according to Erik ten Hag.

During United's March 0-0 draw with Southampton, Kyle Walker-Peters tackled Garnacho, causing an ankle ligament damage.

The 18-year-old was first called up to the senior Argentina national team last month, but he was forced to leave the team because of an injury.

Argentina and United discussed Garnacho's participation in the Under-20 World Cup in his home nation; according to reports in South America, manager Javier Mascherano intervened personally and the teenager expressed a desire to participate. Ten Hag, though, claims he will continue to play for United.

Garnacho would have missed the FA Cup final versus Manchester City on June 3 and the conclusion of the Premier League season because the event starts on May 20.

Erik Ten Hag said: “No we don’t release him (to play at the Under-20 World Cup).

“He will return tomorrow in team training, partially. Then we will have to see when he can return totally in the training, and back into games."

Alejandro Garnacho, who has four goals in 29 games for United this season, might instead play a role in both their quest for a top-four finish and their matchup with Manchester City in the FA Cup final in June.

The 18 year old was meant to be amongst the Under-20 Argentine squad under Javier Mancherano's guidance but it appears Man United have finalized their decision and he will not be departing for the rest of the season.

According to sources, Alejandro Garnacho is begged with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to release him because he has to compete in the Under-20 World Cup next month. Which will see him miss nine games including the Emirates FA Cup final in June.
