'We have good qualities, but..' Tyler Malacia emphasizes on the foundation needed for United's success

Tyrell Malacia thinks Manchester United can succeed more this year as the Reds try to expand on their Carabao Cup victory at Wembley in February.

Before returning to United for the final two months of the 2022–23 season, the Dutch international hopes to participate in the Netherlands' Euro 2024 qualifications against France this Friday evening and Gibraltar on Monday.

Malacia, who is in his first season at the club, has made 30 appearances thus far. He is expected to play a significant role in April, when Erik ten Hag's team will have nine games to play in three separate competitions, beginning with a trip to high-flying Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has described what he and his teammates must do in order to pursue more trophies and is confident that United are moving in the correct direction.

“We have a good team, with good qualities, but we have to be focused and keep improving,” said Malacia, in an exclusive interview with MUTV.

“Everything is possible.”

Since moving to Manchester from Feyenoord last summer, the Dutch back has adjusted well and developed close relationships with his United teammates.

"We give each other energy, we speak a lot with each other and, in the dressing room, we sit next to each other," Tyler Malacia replied when quizzed about his partnership with Marcus Rashford on the left wing. "We have a good connection, that’s important and you can see it on the pitch.”

The former Fayenoord left back then stressed on his relationship with fellow left back LuKe Shaw and his bonding with the rest of the squad.

"It's the same as with Marcus - we have a good connection and we talk a lot with each other. He [Luke] has been here quite a while and he knows how everything works on the pitch and with the club."

“If I have questions, I can always ask him and he helps me," he explained.

Tyler Malacia went ahead to edify Luke Shaw and stressed about his qualities which made Erik Ten Hag to trust the Southampton academy graduate with an emergency role at center back earlier in 2023.

“I know what he’s capable of - he’s good on the ball,” said Tyrell.

“I think the coach also knows his qualities, that’s why he put him there [at centre-back]. The coach knows what he’s doing.”

Manchester United will return to action in April 2 as they will visit Ammex Stadium to play Roberto De Zerbi's men. Erik Ten Hag's side suffered a 2-1 loss to Brighton Albion on match day one of the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign.
