Real Betis winger Sergio Canales is a doubt for Europa League clash with Man United

Manchester United's Thursday night opponent, Real Betis, are reportedly sweating over their captain, Sergio Canales', potential injury.

The La Liga side are already going to be without the very influential playmaker Nabil Fekir, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season following an ACL injury.

The Real Betis captain is as well as a possible doubt for the Europa League round of 16 first leg tie at Old Trafford on Thursday night. Pellegrino's side will be hoping the 32-year-old is fit for the trip to Manchester.

Sergio Canales has racked up over 150 appearances for Real Betis since joining them from Real Madrid in 2018, after he failed to settle at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Spanish capital.

The 32-year-old winger picked up an injury last month during Real Betis' La Liga clash with Real Valladolid, and the Spaniard had to be substituted at halftime. It was a huge blow on Real Betis' side as the winger has scored and assisted on their goal in that match; he has also scored in their last three games prior to Real Valladolid's game.

The former Real Madrid winger is reportedly back in training but still has heavy strapping on his left thigh, according to Spanish outlet AS. The report as well claims Sergio Canales is working hard to be fit ahead of their trip to Old Trafford, as he is desperately trying to play on the biggest stage.

He missed their 0-0 draw against his former side, Real Madrid, during the weekend, and his absence will be a fatal blow for the La Liga side as he was meant to step in for Nabil Fekir and carry out the creative duties on the pitch.

The La Liga side were dealt a huge blow after one of their most influential playmakers, Nabil Fekir, was ruled out of the tie due to an ACL injury; the 29-year-old could miss the rest of the season all along. They will play La Liga giants Real Madrid this weekend before traveling to Manchester for their Europa League tie.

Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias indicated that Nabil Fekir's injury is a bad one for the team, and his absence in the dressing room will be felt.

"I was commenting on it the other day; Nabil brings us a lot on the pitch, but also from the locker room; he is a guy who is cheerful; he always seeks to be in a good mood," Borja Iglesias stated.

“He is fun, and it is a shame not to have him on a day-to-day basis." But obviously we are going to be at the top of our game with him for whatever he needs and he returns as soon as possible, but above all as well as possible.”
