Journalist names two Premier League mid fielders Erik Ten Hag should sign to improve the squad

Manchester United will inevitably have to revamp their squad during the upcoming summer transfer window, regardless of whether they qualify for the Champions League or not. It's an open secret that the unavailability of quality squad depth has indirectly adversely affected the club's progress.

Although Erik ten Hag has done a fantastic job since taking over the club, United's season is starting to falter as a result of the group he inherited, which was poorly put together. Midfield is one of the most critical positions that needs major improvement.

However, the club's ideal goals might be out of reach. United lacks depth and is significantly inferior when Casemiro or Christian Eriksen are out or performing below par. Frenkie de Jong has made it very apparent that he wants to stay at Barcelona, so even if Jude Bellingham weren't ostensibly headed to Real Madrid, United would struggle to sign him before Manchester City.

Samuel Luckhurst wrote for MEN and pointed out where Manchester United had failed themselves in the past and lost out to potential talents and prospects who are now lighting it upat their various choices of clubs.

In his words, he wrote:"The question of which midfielder United chooses is so complicated. Frenkie de Jong would be ideal, but he isn't always a practical shout. De Jong didn't think it was a viable option for United to accept a fee for him in the summer.

When Real Madrid already have Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, it's hard to blame Jude Bellingham for wanting to join them. Two years ago, United was interested in signing Camavinga but learned that he preferred a move to Spain. An ex-United Scout gave a speech outlining the reasons they shouldn't sign Tchouameni. It was little surprise that he left.

Although Moises Caicedo could have a higher ceiling, Declan Rice has the skills to fly at a bigger club. United would have to spend up to 20 times as much money to acquire him now as opposed to in 2021, which is an issue."

His colleagues, Daniel Murphy and Kyle Newbound, believe the Red Devils major priority is a world-class striker. Both concurred with Samuel Luckhurst that Jude Bellingham is already a loss, as is the West Ham star.

Both concluded that Brighton ace Alexis Mac Allister would be an excellent midfield signing, and Kyle Newbound went further to state that Mac Allister's midfield partner at Ammex Stadium, Moises Caicedo, will also be a good competition and replacement for Casemiro.

He stated that a cover and a competition will do no harm to Casemiro before suggesting that Wolverhampton's Ruben Neves fits the bill and will boost Manchester United's ability to dominate and dictate games.

Daniel Murphy also directed Man United to raid clubs that are currently threatened by relegation. He pointed out that Southampton's James Ward Prowse will offer a lot to Erik Ten Hag in terms of passing accuracy and set piece threats, while Leicester City's Youri Tielemans, who has been on United's radar, will bring much-needed energy, dynamism, and efficiency to an occasionally leggy midfield.

The takeover happening at the club will have a major impact on Erik Ten Hag's transfer plans next summer. However, the most significant task at hand is for the Red Devils to finish the season in the top four of the Premier League, thereby sealing a spot in the Champions League next campaign.
