Man United's injury update, possible lineup against Southampton ahead of Sunday Premier League clash

Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday when they play Southampton at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have bounced back from their 7-0 loss against Liverpool last Sunday and recorded a convincing 4-1 win against Real Betis in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie.

They will be aiming to build on that momentum on Sunday in the Premier League, although it's going to be a tough one against a relegation-threatened team. Erik Ten Hag has indicated his side will need to give 100 percent to beat the Saints.

"Definitely, we have seen "I think two weeks ago Southampton beat Chelsea away, so we have to play an outstanding performance on Sunday to beat Southampton," he said when asked during his press conference what he thinks of the Saints.

"At the bottom, it's very close, so they will be on the front foot; they will be aggressive." They will do everything to collect points here. "So we have to be 100 percent and give our best performance to beat them."

Erik Ten Hag also gave an update on injured Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen. 27-year-old French international Anthony Martial has been in and out of the team due to injury this campaign but has resumed training along with the rest of the squad. However, the manager is indicating that his side will be "cautious" with the number nine while stating that Christian Eriksen is making positive progress with his reocupation.

"Yeah, but I think that all the time we had a good plan, and until now it [didn’t] always work well." "But he [Martial] is on his way back; he is back in training, but we will be cautious, yeah."

"I think he [Eriksen] will play, definitely." But I can't tell now what to expect, but I think his progress in rehab is okay. It is going according to plan, so we will definitely see him. "But not before the international break," Erik Ten Hag exclaimed.

"Yes, he is." But of course, his main focus is getting back as soon as possible because we need all the players."

That means Marcel Sabitzer, who missed the Real Betis game due to injury, will be available for the Southampton game and could start if Erik Ten Hag decides to rest Fred. Scott McTominay is also contesting for a starting berth.

Here is a possible lineup against Southampton when the Red Devils line up at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Defense

David de Gea

Well, it wasn't his best night on Thursday due to his kicking, but the record-breaking Spaniard will retain his place between the sticks. Harry Maguire is expected to return to the team and partner Lisandro Martinez, while Wan Bissaka and Tyler Malacia return to their full backfield roles.

Mid field

Casemiro will remain in the midfield while Scott McTominay replaces Fred. Bruno Fernandes will continue his usual role as No. 10.

Attack

Jadon Sancho could start on the right while Marcus Rashford starts in his usual right position and Wout Weghorst is at nine.
