Declan Rice advised to snub United as Mansfield Town manager talks Nathan Bishop's future

Nigel Clough, the manager of League Two outfit Mansfield Town, has stated that he does not anticipate Nathan Bishop to be re-signed by the club this summer.

Bishop, who transferred from Southend United to United in January 2020, played 53 times across all competitions while on loan at Mansfield during the 2021/22 season. He also began the League Two play-off championship match against Port Vale at Wembley, which they lost 3-0. James Wilson, a former United striker, scored one of Port Vale's goals.

Bishop was on loan at the One Call Stadium, but despite its success, United decided not to send him out again this year. Despite being put on Erik ten Hag's substitutes bench four times during the Premier League season, he did not play a single minute for the first team, therefore he is still waiting to make his Reds debut.

He participated in nine games this season with the Under-21s, including four Papa Johns Trophy games. He led the team in their 4-0 loss against Bolton Wanderers as well.

Bishop might soon be without a club if the Reds decide to release him as his contract with United expires at the end of this month. Clough, though, is certain that he will be competing at a level higher than League Two despite rumors that he would re-join the Stags.

"We are still in talks for Christy Pym and I think that's progressing," Clough told The Chad. "There have been one or two obstacles – one or two caused by him. Hopefully that may get sorted. He is our number one choice."

"Having worked with him last season it is one less change. He's one the players know and everyone trusts. But we do have two or three other names on the list.

"There are one or two other younger ones on the list at the moment, but it won't be Nathan Bishop again. He will be playing in a higher division."

Meanwhile, Declan Rice ought to favor a transfer to Arsenal over Manchester United, according to Ally McCoist.

The West Ham United midfielder is rumored to be eager to leave the London Stadium this summer because he wants to compete in the UEFA Champions League.

Only three clubs are rumored to be interested in the 24-year-old: Chelsea, Arsenal, and the Reds. Bayern Munich is also rumored to be keeping a close eye on the situation. Next summer marks the end of Rice's current contract.

With regard to the England midfielder's impending future, McCoist has been outspoken, claiming that he believes the Gunners would be a lot more appealing choice than Erik ten Hag's present plan at Old Trafford.

“It’s a funny one. Over the weekend and over the season, if I’m Declan Rice and I’m weighing up my options, I am thinking I’d probably rather go to Arsenal than Manchester United,'' he said via talkSPORT on Tuesday morning.

“I look at Manchester United over the weekend, and I know they’ve won the League Cup, but they look as though they’re four or five players behind Manchester City. I still think Arsenal are well behind Manchester City, but I think they’ve got the potential to get nearer to them quicker.”
