Gary Neville explains how Ten Hag is imitating Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho as he praises Man United's duo

Former Manchester United's right back, Gary Neville, has pointed out that Erik Ten Hag's tactical ability has helped him influence games from the sidelines, and it's only Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho that have boasted such traits at Old Trafford.

Gary Neville, currently a pundit on Sky Sports, stressed how Erik Ten Hag's tactical tweaks have helped the Red Devils succeed this season, but stated he was marveled by Erik Ten Hag's choice of substitution against Newcastle United last Sunday. During the second half of the encounter with Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, Erik Ten Hag introduced Marcel Sabitzer and Scott McTominay as the Red Devils comfortably secured a 2-0 victory to win the trophy.

"There are times when Jose was at Chelsea and he would make substitutions, and Sir Alex would do the same, and you'd think 'what's he doing?' and it would work," Neville said on The Overlap. "Ten Hag's done that five or six times now in the past few months."

"Even on Sunday, I was absolutely certain that only one midfielder would come on." I didn't think both Marcel Sabitzer and Scott McTominay would come on. "I thought he'd bring on a wide player like Alejandro Garnacho or Jadon Sancho plus a midfielder." "So that surprised me."

Gary Neville further praised Marcel Sabitzer and Scott McTominay for their impacts on the game after coming in the second half of the game.
"Newcastle were having their best period around that time, and it just got Manchester United back in control."

"Every time he makes a change or a substitution, it has a massive impact. I think he's done it in the last six or seven matches, and actually, it makes the team better. "It's hard to do that," Gary Neville explained.

Erik Ten Hag has guided the Manchester-based club to their first trophy in six years, ending their six-year trophy drought.
