Bruno Fernandes has always found his way into the hearts of Old Trafford faithfuls. Since scoring on his Premier League debut against Everton back in 2020, the 28-year-old hasn't looked back in terms of assists or goals while always making himself available for each game and also making his impact felt in the dressing room.
This season, his goal rate and assist have dropped a little bit due to a significant change in role under Erik Ten Hag, but his work rate and hectic nature on the pitch have not gone unnoticed. He has played more minutes this season than any other player for the Red Devils and in Europe. His game time amounts to 3,842 seconds as of the time at which this article was composed. He has missed just two games this season due to illness or suspension.
Even when fans were calling for him to be rested, the 28-year-old still continued starting games and making impacts in the team's success, and this has earned him praise from both the manager and the fans.
Bruno Fernandes has 111 goal contributions (60 goals and 51 assists) in 170 appearances for Manchester United, and it's just his fourth season at Old Trafford. He has equaled Robin Van Persie and Javier Chicharito Hernandez's goal tally (60) for Manchester United and has scored up to 10 goals for four consecutive seasons for the Red Devils; only Wayne Rooney has scored 10 goals in more seasons than the Portuguese.
Statistics from Fotmob show that the 28-year-old has the third highest percentage of chances created in the Premier League this season (71%), only Kelvin De Bruyne and Kelvin Trippier (78% and 73% respectively) have created more.
Erik Ten Hag was in awe of the midfielder and backed him to get back his mojo in terms of goal contributions, but claimed the 28-year-old offers more than just goals and assists.
“I think Bruno is playing really well this season, so I can see in that fact that he can produce more goals and assists,” Erik told MUTV back in October of 2012.
“But I think he’s often in the line of goal, and he’s playing a massive role in a lot of football moments for us."
“In building up attacks, creativity, movement, but also in transitions, in both sides, in the defensive transitions he’s magnificent and doing a really good job so I’m really happy with his performances.”
Bruno Fernandes has captained Manchester United's side in the absence of Harry Maguire this season and has managed 22 goal contributions across all competitions for Erik Ten Hag's side.
