Erik ten Hag requires every player on his roster to be healthy and prepared if Manchester United is to win the FA Cup, the Europa League, and qualify for the Champions League.
As soon as the following weekend, Christian Eriksen could return to play for Manchester United.
Since sustaining a foot ligament injury in United's 3-1 FA Cup victory over Reading on January 28, midfielder Eriksen has been sidelined. He was anticipated to be sidelined until late April, but he has resumed exercising and may even be available for the United team's Premier League match against Everton next Saturday.
"It's going well," said Eriksen. "I've just started being outside, with football boots on. Then we take it from there, that's the next step. I've been in the gym for some weeks now and now it's time to do the next rehab session outside."
"It's weird not being on international duty, you're normally away and now it's more the thing you're following your national team and you're here instead of being with them. That's weird, but it has happened before so you get used to it. But, still, you enjoy it less," he explained.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, is extremely encouraged by Christian Eriksen's statement because he previously called him a "important" player. The international from Denmark participated in 31 games for the Red Devils across all leagues before getting hurt at the end of January.
Ten Hag stated as cited by the Man Utd website, "As a manager we faced him, so I know his capabilities and I was so happy that we could sign him. I think he proved from the first day how important his is to our game."
Christian Eriksen will be hoping to participate in at least one more final before the season is over after missing United's victory over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. In the FA Cup semifinals against Brighton and Sevilla in the Europa League quarterfinals, Ten Hag's team will compete.
In addition, United wants to get back into the Champions League. Despite having played the same number of games as Newcastle, they are third in the Premier League and only three points clear of them. However, they do have two games in hand on fourth-place Tottenham.
Sunday's Premier League match between United and Newcastle at St. James' Park is an important one. Ten Hag's team will fall to fifth if the Magpies win and Tottenham, who fired Antonio Conte, defeats Everton at Goodison Park on Monday.
For Eriksen, the encounter against Newcastle is one too soon. Eriksen said he now has a better perspective on such obstacles in light of his injury. Eriksen made a remarkable recovery after experiencing a cardiac arrest during the European Championships in June 2021.
"I think earlier in my career I would have taken it a lot harder than I do now," Eriksen told manunted.com.
"You learn later on that it's just part of your career. Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not. The mindset is just getting back as soon as possible in a healthy, strong way and not to get any setbacks."
