Scott McTominay has left a huge impression on not just the fans but his teammate as well following his display for Scotland national team during the international break. The mid fielder scored a brace each against Cyprus and Spain as he sends fans in a divided debate over his abilities but has earned playudits from his teammate Bruno Fernandes.
The United midfielder scored two goals against the European heavyweights after scoring twice for the Tartan Army against Cyprus in the opening Euro 2024 qualifier on Saturday. His second goal at Hampden Park gave fans a special time to remember the game.
It was a historic outcome for Scotland because they kept their perfect record in Group A after two games and can now daydream about competing in the summer exhibition in Germany. In the event that they are successful in doing so, McTominay and his initial effect during the March international break will be seen as a catalyst.
McTominay was given regular playing time at the beginning of this Premier League season, but since their 6-3 loss to Manchester City in October, he has only made one appearance for United in that league as Casemiro and other players continue to be preferred by Erik ten Hag in the backfield.
However, because the Brazilian powerhouse is still on suspension locally, Ten Hag may decide to use the 26-year-old on Sunday afternoon. Along with four goals in back-to-back games for his country, Marcel Sabitzer and Christian Eriksen are among the injured players, which will help his prospects.
When the Premier League resumes, McTominay will be competing for a spot in central midfield, but some United fans believe he should start in attacking positions due to his goal-scoring prowess for the Tartan Army! Here are some remarks from fans on Social media
"Better finisher than weghorst, that’s not difficult," a fan commented.
"I always defend mcsause when they try to ditch him out of the starting 11. When that boy is on form he is a force that is very hard to contain. I'm not saying he is Paul Scholes but he can do a good job in our fragile midfield," another indicated.
"He's been with the Club longer than Scotland but never performed," another fan pointed out.
Manchester United's assistant captain, Bruno Fernandes could not contain his excitement after Scott McTominay's display against Spain as the Portuguese posted on his Instagram story, a footage of the 26 year old at full time applauding the Scotland's fans with the caption "What a player, McTerminator"
Scott McTominay's performance over the international break will give Erik Ten Hag's some thing to think about ahead of the return of club football this Sunday.
