(Video) Former United's boss José Mourinho already accused City over spending habits

In the wake of Manchester City being charged for for financial fair play breaches, a press interview of former Man United's manager Jose Mourinho slamming the local rivals spending habits has re-emerged.

Given his prior remarks regarding Manchester City's spending binges, Jose Mourinho is unlikely to be surprised by the over 100 financial fair play violations that have been alleged against the team.

After a four-year inquiry, the Premier League charged City with over 100 financial violations, according to a statement they made on Monday. An independent inquiry will now begin after the allegations, which span a nine-year period, were handed down.

The declaration has come as a shock to City, who are ready to put the situation ‘to bed’. Although Mourinho, who addressed the expenditure of the Etihad Stadium team during his time at Manchester United and recognized that his team would not be able to compete at the very top level at that time owing to their financial restrictions in comparison to their opponents, won't have been startled.

“You think the club can put here now £600 million and let's buy six players of £100 million? The club cannot do that. I cannot expect the club to do that, so it’s not critical and you can see how the market is, especially with the top teams,"
Speaking at a Man United's press conference back in 2017, Jose Mourinho explained.

“Can we buy six or seven players at the same time? Can we invest £600-700 million? No. So, it's difficult. I think the last years, the market is going in such a direction or you belong to one of these clubs where there is no limit and you just buy what you want and there is no limit, there is no financial fair play, there is nothing, you do what you want - or it's hard.”

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager finished second during his first full season at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho went further to emphasize how the Citizens's spending has guaranteed them success over the years.

“But, you know, without taking any credit away from Manchester City and Pep [Guardiola], and his staff, and the players, they obviously have lots of credit in what they are doing."

"Pep arrives, he has the goalkeeper of England [Joe Hart], he doesn't like him so he buys the goalkeeper of Barcelona [Claudio Bravo]. He doesn't like him so he buys another one [Ederson]," he explained.

Manchester City is certain that they will be able to refute the Premier League's allegations and that they would come out of the probe "clean."

However, depending on the seriousness of the charges, the club could get a variety of penalties if they are proven guilty. Although Premier League competitors have also suggested that City be ejected from the English top division, City might be penalized for their transgressions and stripped of their league titles.

Rumors suggests that clubs that finished second from the seasons Manchester City won the Premier League could be named winners if the Premier League decides to strip the Citizens of their Premier League trophies. Manchester United second on three different occasions.
