Manchester United's midfielder Bruno Fernandes has indicated that the club's fans deserve the moment of joy after the team lifted their first trophy under Erik Ten Hag and ended their six-year trophy drought as well.
Bruno Fernandes claimed that winning the Carabao Cup is the "perfect start" for things to come under Erik Ten Hag and voiced out that the team wants more trophies.
"It’s always incredible to be a Red; it doesn’t matter if you win or not; it’s always incredible,” he told MUTV at full time.
“You see the support they [fans] give us in difficult moments, and now it’s time for them to have some joy, too, because they’ve been behind us through the worst, and now they deserve this."
“They deserve to be in this position with us.”
Bruno Fernandes was quick to praise the team's manager Erik Ten Hag who has led the Red Devils to their first silverware despite just joining the club 9 months ago. The Dutch tactician has influenced the Red Devils' playing style on the pitch and, with his tactical tweaks, ensured that they grind out results from games.
"Erik came with his demands, his passion, and the way he wants to play, and he brought something special to this team," Bruno Fernandes explained.
"We just have to carry on and do our best because this club demands a lot, and we demand a lot from ourselves too."
That was one tournament checked out in the best way possible. Manchester United are still competing in the Europa League and FA Cup and are also in the mix to launch a title challenge. Bruno Fernandes has stated that himself and his teammates would want more trophies, as winning the Carabao Cup is just the start.
"It's been amazing [to win the Carabao Cup]," he told Sky Sports.
“This is the first trophy of the season, but we want more." We want more.
“This is not enough for this club; we want and we need more because, for our standing, we need more."
”For me, it was about winning trophies." Finally, we did it, but I want more. "I want much more," Bruno Fernandes added.
Manchester United scored a quick double against Newcastle United to secure the Carabao Cup trophy at Wembley Stadium. The Red Devils struggled at the opening stages of the encounter to contain the Panthers' fast and aggressive approach while they tried to build momentum as well.
It was Luke Shaw's brilliant free kick that was met with Casemiro's bullet header as the Brazilian sent the ball into the far corner of the net. Marcus Rashford won the set piece at the edge of the box.
Moments later, Marcus Rashford was put through by Wout Weghorst, and the England international unleashed a blast that was deflected off Newcastle United's Sven Fischer's football before it went past a helpless Loris Klarius.
David De Gea pulled off a number of excellent saves and kept a clean sheet to become the outright goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the Red Devils' history books.
