After his girlfriend Harriet Robson accused him of rape and abuse, Greenwood was detained in February of last year.

His allegations were finally withdrawn by the court after multiple hearings when new evidence became available and witnesses choose not to provide testimony.

Greenwood was released from custody by the court, but Manchester United has continued to suspend him since the team indicated in a statement last week that they will first carry out an internal inquiry before moving forward.

Many employees at Manchester United, it has been reported, would be extremely disappointed if Mason Greenwood returned to the team, while others would owe the player a duty of care.
