Manchester United's Premier League rival Chelsea are reportedly back in the race for Borussia Monchengladbach's striker Marcus Thuram after Graham Potter's side failed in the pursuit for the French star.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the 25-year-old's situation with reference to Chelsea's interest.
"A deal for Marcus Thuram didn’t happen because Chelsea had the player on their list but it was never close."
The priority was Mykhaylo Mudryk, and they’ve been able to sign him.
Thuram always wanted to decide his future in the final months of his contract, not in January. Thuram has many proposals from England, Spain, and Italy too; the decision will be made later this year.
Teamtalk claimed that top teams from La Liga and Seria A are also interested in the Bundesliga striker, but it appears he will be headed for the Premier League.
Chelsea are reportedly set to part ways with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the Gabon international was dropped from the Blues' Champions League squad list and has also fallen down the pecking order at Stanford Bridge.
Todd Boehly, the new Chelsea owner, has spent £601 million as he is set to provide Graham Potter with a team that could challenge for the title next season, however, they would be needing a reliable goalscorer and a new signing. David Fofana, 20, seems not the player to carry such a burden on his shoulder given he is still a prospect.
Marcus Thuram is certain to be heading for the exit from Borussia Monchengladbach as his current contract runs out by the end of this season. Already proving he can carry the burden of providing an opponent with a goal, given his 11 goals for Monchengladbach in 20 Bundesliga outings.
He also made an impressive five appearances for France during the World Cup tournament in Qatar last year. He recorded two assists for Les Blues in the tournament's final against Argentina.
Chelsea are reportedly desperate to make a move for the 25-year-old next summer, but they will have to challenge Manchester United, who are also in need of a permanent striker at Old Trafford.
Erik Ten Hag's side had to sort out a temporary solution in Wout Weghorst, and with Marcus Thuram refusing to pen a new deal with Borussia Monchengladbach, which makes him available as a free agent at the end of the season, it will be a bidding war between the two Premier League rivals.
