Manchester United's manager Erik Ten Hag backed Red Devils winger Jadon Sancho and Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer to come up with the goods during this time when a number of first-team players are unavailable.
Brazilian ace Antony is out of the Red Devils' clash with Leeds United due to injury, and Jadon Sancho is expected to fill in for the former Ajax ace. Jadon Sancho returned to the squad after spending over three months on the sidelines while he recovered from his injury and underwent therapy. He made his return to the matchday squad during the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals against Nottingham Forest.
Marcel Sabitzer came in as an emergency recruit following Christian Eriksen's injury. The player, however, had to play an unfamiliar role on his debut due to Casemiro's red card and Manchester United down to 10 men.
Ahead of the Leeds United game, Manchester United are without five members of their first team. Anthony Martial is still struggling with his fitness, Donny Van De Beek and Christian Eriksen are set for a long period before returning, and Scott McTominay and Anthony are due to miss the midweek clash. That leaves Erik Ten Hag with a depleted squad and players expected to fill in unfamiliar roles.
Erik Ten Hag has however made it clear that he is confident in the available players to carry out the necessary duties to grind out results; he further emphasized Jadon Sancho and Marcel Sabitzer will both come in handy for Manchester United on the long run.
"Not only in the next three games coming up, we signed him (Sabitzer), and we said from the start of the season, we only want to bring in outstanding players, and he is one of them," he stated while speaking at his press conference at Carrington training center.
"He has a good profile, and he already has a good record at good clubs." He has already performed at the highest level; we are sure of his character; he is also a winner, and he can contribute to success. "I think in the 20 minutes he played, we have already seen a little bit, but there is more to come, and I am sure he will do [that]."
Erik Ten Hag then addressed Jadon Sancho's potential contributions to the team after being on the sideline for a lengthy period.
"I think the best moment was how the fans embraced him."
"That reception will beckon, and it will motivate him to bring even more." The fans like his game, and he is a brilliant football player. "We are happy to have him back because he can contribute with his creativity, speed, and intelligence," he explained.
"He can decide football games, and that is also what we expect from him. He will do just that."
The manager expressed his disappointment in how the 22-year-old was unable to get another minute of football under his belt during Manchester United's narrow victory against Crystal Palace following Casemiro's melee and dismissal.
"He is good." "We saw last week that he came in and he did really well," said the manager.
"It was also a pity and was one of the consequences of the sending off of Casemiro that I couldn't bring him in." We have to get the draw and make other subs because I did plan to bring him on. That process was also a setback for us."
"If you see overall, we are very happy with that win against Crystal Palace after the sending off, but once again, it shows and expresses the good spirit we have in the team." It gives the team more encouragement, motivation, and confidence. "It was bad too in a lot of aspects."
The 52-year-old stated that the mood within the club and connection to the fans will help them get through with the best results.
"You can see in this team there is the right mentality." We are creating a winning mentality, and we do that with the togetherness we have with the fans. "That has to do with commitment, and that also has to do with the approach of togetherness," Erik Ten Hag emphasized.
"We want to win games, and at this moment, we have the right players on the pitch." They can bring the right mood to the game, but they also know when they need to bring the right mojo."
"The fans coming in are what give us such a high level and help us with these performances." "If we stick together, we have a good chance of being successful together."
The manager also affirmed he is set for a long-term stay with the club and explained what made him make the decision. When asked during his press conference if he has a vision for the club on a long-term basis, the manager replied: "I don't think about it." "I always think about the long term. In every club where I was, I have been thinking about long-term work to build a culture, to build a way of playing, to develop the players and the team obviously."
"I think in the long term, obviously, in contracts and in windows, because I think that is the [right] way." "Thinking about the long term and acting in a long way, I stay with many clubs for a long time compared to nowadays."
"I am not here for one year; I am here longer. I see it as a long-term project." "To build here and how long it is, you can't see, I can't tell," he told the club's media.
