Breaking News: Man United has made a temporary decision about Mason Greenwood's return

Manchester United's youngster Mason Greenwood is reportedly set to return to the club next season and would miss the rest of the campaign due to the Red Devils' inability to decide his future.

The 21-year-old has been out of the team due to suspension following his arrest last January on charges of assault and threat to kill.

The Manchester United academy graduate was arrested after he assaulted his girlfriend, Harriet Robson, and was set to face trial in November 2023; however, the charges against the England international have been dropped and the CPS has released a statement.

"We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review." In this case, a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. "In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case," said a spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service.

"We have explained our decision to all parties. "We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police, and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met."

The 20-time Premier League Champions reacted to the latest development by releasing a statement in which they claim the 21-year-old will continue to serve his ban while the club carries out an internal investigation regarding his release.

"Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped," read a statement from the 20-time English champions.

"The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps." "We will not make any further comment until that process is complete."

The Daily Mail and The Mirror have allegedly claimed that the attacker is set to miss the rest of the campaign as Manchester United aren't anywhere close to making a decision about his future. It is reported that the player is likely to get interviewed by the club, but the club's private investigation would take months.

Reports emerged that Man United manager Erik Ten Hag had contacted the youngster to enquire about his mental and physical health but claimed the player's future lies solely with the club's decision. According to reports, Ten Hag made it clear to the Englishman that it would not be up to him whether or not the forward could continue playing for Old Trafford.

Mason Greenwood earns around £70,000 per week at Old Trafford, and his current contract is set to expire in June 2025, with a further 12-month extension option.

Man United is rumored to be evaluating all of their options, including trying to sell the forward this summer, ending his contract, or bringing him back for the start of the next preseason.

In 129 appearances for the Red Devils, Mason Greenwood has 35 goals and 12 assists, including 22 goals and 4 assists in 83 Premier League games.
