Manchester United have completed the signing of 16-year-old Gabriele Briancheri from Cardiff City's academy.
The Red Devils saw the deal stall during the winter transfer window but had to seek FIFA's permission to complete the young striker's switch to Old Trafford. The teenage Welsh took to his Twitter account on Friday to confirm his 9-year stay with the Blues has come to an end and he will be seeking new challenges elsewhere.
"After more than 9 years, my time with Cardiff has come to an end. I'd like to thank all of my coaches for helping me become the player and person I am today, as well as all my teammates. "I'll forever be thankful for the opportunity I've had at this club," he wrote on his official Twitter account.
The speculation surrounding the player's future has been up for debate, with Manchester United and Chelsea all seeking the teenager's signature.
However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed via his social media handle that the 16-year-old will certainly join the 20-time Premier League Champions. The Italian Journalist further claimed that Gabriele Briancheri has completed and passed his medicals with the club and is set to pen a four-year contract to become Manchester United's academy player.
Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United were able to convince the 16-year-old despite interest from other Premier League rivals. Fabrizio Romano believes the striker will sign a professional contract with Manchester United when he turns 17, probably in September 2023.
"Talented 2006-born striker Gabriele Biancheri has confirmed he's leaving Cardiff City -- deal completed to join Manchester United academy #MUFC,"
Medical tests already done, four-year contract in place as Manchester United win the competition over 2-3 English clubs," Fabrizio Romano wrote on his Twitter handle.
Cadiff City's under-18 manager, Steve Jenkins, has edified the young striker, stressing how brilliant the 16-year-old is: "There's a long way to go with him being only 16, but he's been fantastic stepping up."
"Goals are brilliant for him, and his two against Bristol City to win us the game earned that call up to the under-21s, and when he had his 45 minutes for them, I was really impressed," he told Wales online.
Gabriele Briancheri has netted 17 times for various Cadiff youth teams this season, and Chelsea were reportedly interested in taking the young striker to Stamford Bridge.
Erik Ten Hag's side are expected to be active during the coming summer's transfer window. They are heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Victor Oshimen in their bid to get a striker on a permanent basis.
They only found a temporary solution in Wout Weghorst. The Red Devils are also frontrunners for Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham's signature. They are vying with fellow Premier League rivals, Liverpool and Manchester City, for the former Birmingham midfielder.
West Ham's Declan Rice is also linked with a possible heavy-money switch to Old Trafford.
