David De Gea's future still in the balance despite Diogo Costa's 'internet' comments

Despite speculations to Manchester United this summer, Diogo Costa maintains that he "hopes to continue" at Porto.

The goalkeeper, who has upheld 16 clean sheets this season, has firmly established himself as a household name in Portugal. The 23-year-old appears to be extremely satisfied at the Estádio do Drago, despite the fact that Porto has demonstrated a willingness to sell their top players for the proper price.

As questions about David de Gea's future swirl after his performance at the weekend, numerous goalkeepers have been linked to United. However, Costa doesn't seem to be interested in leaving, saying he plays for his "favorite club."

"That’s the internet." Costa stated when quizzed about the rumors of him leaving the Portuguese outfit.

"It is a happiness and an honour to play for my favourite club. What they say is what they say, there is nothing concrete, I have a contract until 2027 and I hope to continue, let’s see."

Costa has a £65 million release clause, and recent rumors from Portugal indicate that United was willing to pay the high price. However, it now appears that they will give other parts of their team more attention, which guarantees De Gea a berth in the team for the upcoming season.

The Spaniard, who has been a mainstay at Old Trafford for more than ten years, has been more prone to blunders, and most recently, they cost them games against Sevilla and West Ham. Ilkay Gundogan's winning goal in the FA Cup was once more criticized, but Ten Hag has resisted the urge of bemoaning his goalie.

He said in the aftermath of their FA Cup defeat: "In this moment, I don't want to talk about such issues of criticism because we played all a great season - including David De Gea, he played a fantastic season."

The addition of a new goalkeeper is not a priority for United this summer, and because De Gea's contract is about to expire, it is believed that a new agreement will be announced as soon as possible, even though the Spaniard has had to accept a pay cut from his enormous salary.

De Gea is still the subject of conflicting opinions, with Roy Keane, a vocal opponent, pressing the team to look for a successor.

"I'd move him on quickly, he's not for me, he's not going to get Man United back winning trophies, absolutely not. This idea of everybody patting him on the head, it's just ridiculous. That's his job," Roy Keane stated.
