"I want them to lose"- Newcastle United's Callum Wilson makes Liverpool claim amid Champions League race

Newcastle United appears to be feeling the pressure as Liverpool keeps up their pursuit of a top-four finish in the Premier League.

The Magpies and Manchester United, who are in third and fourth place respectively but are only one point ahead of them, are under siege from the Reds. The two teams still have a game in hand, but one mistake from any team may lose them a place in the Champions League, and Liverpool is ready to seize any errors.

Callum Wilson undoubtedly perceives Jurgen Klopp's team as a danger. The star striker of Newcastle is keeping an eye on his back as the Reds maintain their seven-game winning streak as they aim for their first Champions League appearance in 20 years.

The Footballer's Football Podcast recently included a conversation between Wilson and Michail Antonio on recent events in the Premier League, particularly Liverpool's 3-0 victory, which saw hometown heroes Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold steal the show with their goals.

"Ahh, Liverpool 2-0 up, I don’t want to hear that right now! Come on, I need them to lose!” Wilson said. “What’s Curtis Jones doing as well?! He doesn’t even score goals! He is scoring two. Curtis Jones, two out of everyone?!”

The 22-year-old midfielder has only made 16 Premier League appearances this season as he continues to try to establish himself as a regular under Klopp. Jones, on the other hand, has started the last nine games and scored three goals and provided an assist over that span.

His two goals against Leicester were undoubtedly impressive and gave Liverpool a critical three points in their pursuit of the top four. Liverpool can complete the season with a maximum of 71 points and has just two games left to try to qualify for the Champions League.

Jones will also be arguing for a spot in Klopp's midfield lineup as the manager prepares to completely overhaul the engine room during the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp however is certain Manchester United will be finishing in the top four. He stated this ahead of the last weekend's Premier League fixtures.

"I am pretty sure we were in a situation like that years ago. I think Chelsea was winning all the time behind us so we had to win all the games," he said.

"It's not comfortable but in the end we made it anyway. Newcastle and United would be happy if we would not be there any more, but still it is more likely they will do it."

"I respect that. If they finish the season above us, they deserve it and that's how I see it."
