Erik Ten Hag advised to give 100% in mid fielder's chase as youngster celebrates professional contract on Instagram

Sam Murray, a youngster at Manchester United's academy, is happy to have signed his first professional contract with the club.

Sam Murray announced on Instagram that he had officially signed the agreement. “Happy to sign my first professional contract with @manchesterunited. A proud moment for me and my family. The hard work continues!” he wrote.

Sam Murray started six out of the seven games, including the FA Youth Cup final, as a member of the Manchester United team that won the competition in 2022. The talented left-back was acquired by United from Huddersfield Town and has been progressing through the ranks, playing in a total of 46 games at the under-18 level.

With 17 games, all of which came this past season, including five in the EFL Trophy, he has also advanced to playing under-21s.

Murray was also invited to join Manchester United's winter tour of Spain, and Erik ten Hag chose Murray to play 45 minutes each against Cadiz and Real Betis.

He will probably travel to the US for a preseason tour and have the opportunity to make an impression. Alvaro Fernandez's return gives United good coverage at left-back, but Sam Murray could stake his claim to the first team and give him a run for his money .

Another impressive performance by the under-21 team might even lead to a loan transfer in the middle of the following campaign.

In other news, Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has advised Erik Ten Hag to do all in his power to sign Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong.

We all know that during the summer's transfer window, United was considering signing de Jong. The Dutch international eventually stayed and helped Xavi's squad win La Liga.

Daily Express revealed a week ago that United will reopen their search for the 26-year-old during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Meulensteen suggests that the squad should rekindle its interest in de Jong in light of the team's need for a midfielder. What he stated is as follows (via Metro and the Manchester United Official Scandinavian Supporters Club): " They need a really good midfield player."

“Yes, they’ve got Casemiro in there. You’ve got Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes – a lot of experience, a lot of qualities – but there’s also a little bit of a vulnerability because their mindsets are predominantly in going forward."

“I would 100% do everything to get De Jong. He’s got energy, he’s got legs, he’s tactically very, very good in the build-up.”

When Sir Alex Ferguson was in control of the team, Meulensteen was a coach. He is knowledgeable about the kind of players who can benefit the team.

Ten Hag and De Jong collaborated at Ajax, where Ten Hag gained notoriety before to his departure to Barcelona.

The Dutch international can advance the ball, serve as a point of buildup from midfield, make accurate passes, and have good game reading skills.

It may sound repetitive to try again this summer after missing out on him last year, but having the 26-year-old in the United team would significantly improve their midfield. There remains a void to be addressed notwithstanding the likelihood that Fred will be sold.

The expectation is that de Jong will be drawn in by the fact that the Red Devils are very certain to compete in the Champions League next season, as well as the chance to rejoin with ten Hag.
