Amad Diallo, a young player from Manchester United who impressed while on loan at Sunderland, has drawn interest from Feyenoord, and Erik ten Hag has been instructed to cling onto him.
Diallo played the 2022–23 season on loan for the Black Cats in the Championship, where his 14 goals helped Tony Mowbray's team reach the play-offs, where they lost to Luton Town in the semifinals. He will now go back to United, where he can try to stake himself a spot in Ten Hag's first team plans.
However, his impressive season on Wearside has not gone unnoticed, as the winger has drawn interest from major clubs around Europe.
Feyenoord, the reigning Dutch champions, are reportedly interested in signing Amad this summer, according 1908.nl (via Goal). The Ivorian has long been coveted by Feyenoord, and an agreement to sign him on loan in 2021 fell through as a result of an injury sustained during a United practice.
He then spent the remainder of the season on loan with Rangers, appearing in just 13 games over a mixed period for the Glasgow club. Nine of Diallo's first-team appearances for United have already occurred, all in the 2020–21 campaign. Diallo has one goal to his name, which he netted against AC Milan in a Europa League quarterfinal match.
There is a lot of anticipation for the 20-year-old's future after his performances this season. Rio Ferdinand, a former defender who spoke on the player's future on his Vibe with Five show, advised United to give the young winger a chance in the first team this season because of the apparent skill that Amad has displayed during his time in the north-east.
"He is an interesting one," Ferdinand said. "He has got talent there is no doubting that. You can see the talent he has got but you can see he wasn’t robust enough at the time."
"But that loan at Sunderland, he left that place a hero, an absolute god. He plays on the right hand side too, a problem position for us."
One of Hag's initial moves as United manager was to sign Antony, the Brazilian left-footer occupying the right wing position Diallo had held his entire career. Many of Diallo's goals at Sunderland were scored by cutting inside onto his dangerous left-foot, and it's anticipated that he might take on Antony in same capacity next season.
"I know Antony has come in and done well but he is someone you can look at and say can he add something a bit different. I would like to see him given another opportunity." Ferdinand continued.
"There is a bit of unfinished business and I don’t know if he’s not good enough, not right for Man Utd or he is [good enough] because I haven’t seen enough."
Feyenoord wants Amad Diallo
If rumors out of the Netherlands are to be believed, Sunderland's ambitions of bringing Amad Diallo back to the Stadium of Light could be dealt a severe setback. Eredivisie Champions Feyenoord are reportedly interested in taking Amad Diallo on loan from Manchester United this summer, according to Dutch media outlet 1908.
After easily winning the championship, Arne Slot's team will compete in the Champions League the following year. De club aan de Maas was interested in signing the Ivorian in 2021, and they are poised to do so again this summer.
Erik Ten Hag will evaluate the promising youngster when Diallo returns to Manchester United for preseason before deciding on his next move. The 20-year-old has already received a warning from the Red Devils manager that he must earn the right to represent United, but a standout season in the Championship will have won over the former Ajax manager.
The Ivorian was a standout performer in the Championship last season and provided magical moments as Tony Mowbray's Sunderland team advanced to the play-off semifinals. After this season, Diallo has already shown interest in returning to the Stadium of Light, and he is expected to decide in the coming weeks whether to pursue a potential loan out of Old Trafford.
In 39 games for Sunderland, he notched 14 goals and three assists, and the club would kill to have him return to Wearside for another campaign. According to the source, Feyenoord has not yet made an official proposal for Diallo but could provide play in a competitive division and in the Champions League
