Man United reportedly linked with 19 year old Birmingham City's defender Rico Browne

According to Football Insider, Manchester United is keeping an eye on Birmingham City's Rico Browne ahead of the summer transfer window, but his present team wants to keep him.

The 19-year-old, along with George Hall and Jobe Bellingham, two other talented young players at St Andrew's who have reportedly drawn interest from other teams in the past, is one of many.

He plays as a central defender and will be eager to break into John Eustace's first-team plans as quickly as possible, but does he like the idea of staying in the Midlands?

Even though he previously turned down interest from the Premier League, the defender would be eager to move to Old Trafford, according to the same report from Football Insider.

Although it was said that West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur were both interested in signing him, the teenager chose to extend his stay in the Midlands, giving the Championship team a significant boost.

Although he has yet to play for Eustace's team in the first team, his current teammates want to keep him around for the time being because he leads the club's Under-21 team, with Man United "assembling an extensive dossier" on him, they might be fighting an uphill struggle to keep him.

Given that a number of players in this position are expected to leave St. Andrew's in the summer, it will be intriguing to see what transpires in the center-back position.

All of Harlee Dean, Kevin Long, and George Friend's contracts are up at the end of this season, while Maxime Colin's time with the team is also set to end.

They not only run the possibility of losing players when their contracts expire, but Dion Sanderson and Auston Trusty are also scheduled to leave after their loan agreements expire next month.

Another player with a hazy future is Nico Gordon. The defender has yet to develop and solidify his place in the first team of the Midlands outfit. However, Eustace's team might be able to use both Gordon and Browne in the future, so it would be tough to imagine the club letting them both leave without a struggle.

However, it appears that the club has the option to extend Gordon's contract, which will give them a lifeline if they are unable to sign him to a long-term agreement before the summer.

Manchester United will be looking to revamp their defensive options ahead of the next campaign, with Victor Lindelof and team captain Harry Maguire both linked with a move away from Old Trafford after they both fell down the pecking order. Both have attracted interest from Seria A and a number of Premier League clubs as they both seek first-team football.

Manchester United still have the likes of Eric Baily and Alex Tuanzenbe in their defensive ranks, although both are on loan stints with Marseille and Stoke City, respectively. While the likes of Will Fish and Tengi Mengi are still fighting for a place in the Red Devils' first team,

Meanwhile, Manchester United's academy star Hannibal Mejbri, who is on loan at Birmingham City, has enjoyed a stellar campaign in the English Championship with the Blues. The 20-year-old has impressed since joining them on a season-long loan deal.

He has made 32 appearances for the Blues, scoring once, which happened to be his first career goal, as well as assisting on five more while playing as a deep lying playmaker.

The Tunisian has insisted on finishing the season with the Blues and is eyeing a chance to break into Manchester United's senior team next season.
