Harry Maguire's future talks confirmed as multiple clubs seek Anthony Elanga's signature

As there are concerns regarding a lot of players entering the annual transfer market, Manchester United will need to bolster their team this summer.

Harry Maguire, who was replaced by Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez this season, is one of the players whose futures at the club are becoming more and more uncertain. The United captain hasn't seen much action under manager Erik ten Hag, and with two years left on his deal, he might be leaving.

Luke Shaw has occasionally filled in at center midfield, but Ten Hag has made it clearly obvious that he favours Martinez and Varane over Maguire.

However, Maguire has recently had a change in form, and Ten Hag has recently praised him. Journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has since issued an update on the matter, suggesting that at the conclusion of current campaign, Maguire would speak with the manager about his future.

"Ten Hag recently publicly praised Harry Maguire and that is because the Dutchman really appreciates the English defender, especially as a top professional,” Romano wrote for CaughtOffside.

“Maguire has never created any problems – this is why he was not on the market in January. For the summer though, a lot will depend on what the player wants."

“As for now, Maguire is fully focused on the final part of the season and wants to win more trophies with Man United. He will speak to Ten Hag to decide his future at the end of the season.”

It's safe to assume that if Maguire decides to stay at the club, he will have to get used to playing a supporting position because Ten Hag hasn't offered any indications that he wants to sever the seemingly indestructible bond between Martinez and Varane.

At the core of United's defense, the two have developed a fantastic relationship that has laid the groundwork for the rest of the club to succeed.

Maguire has performed well lately and may prove to be a useful addition to the team, but there are still doubts over whether he should serve as captain.

12 clubs reportedly interested in Anthony Elanga

One of the main issues facing new Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag in his first season in charge has been scoring goals.

The Dutch manager has not been helped by the fact that quite a few players have underperformed in that measure, as the Red Devils have scored the second fewest goals among the top nine.

None of the attacking players have reached double digits outside of Marcus Rashford due to Anthony Martial's injury struggles and Wout Weghorst's less than stellar loan experiences.

Even the wingers have struggled to score goals this season, with Anthony Elanga being one of the biggest letdowns for the Dutch coach. Many expected the Sweden international to succeed under Ten Hag after he made his breakthrough under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

However, the 20-year-old has made 24 appearances, seven of which were starts, and has contributed two assists but not any goals. The United academy graduate has been used in a variety of places in addition to his favored left wing position, but neither one has seen him shine.

Elanga attracted a lot of loan interest in January from teams including Borussia Dortmund and, surprise, Barcelona. But the administration had felt that it would be wise to retain a hold on the 20 year old given the uncertainties surrounding Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri as well as the injury issues Martial was experiencing.

But the Swede hasn't played much lately, and he even acknowledged that his lack of playing time this season is frustrating.

The Reds are willing to send him out on loan, according to The Peoples Person, because they still believe Elanga has what it takes to thrive at Old Trafford and all he needs is consistent playing time.

According to a recent rumor in The Daily Mail, the 20-time English league champions may sell him permanently as they seek to collect money to expand the budget set up for Ten Hag.

“Anthony Elanga is set to leave the club in the summer while Anthony Martial could also be on his way out.

“Sweden international Anthony Elanga has made just 24 appearances in all competitions and only five starts in the Premier League.

“Over 12 clubs are interested in acquiring his signature and the winger is keen for a fresh challenge away from United,” the report added.

Transfermarkt values Elanga at €25 million, and with the interest he is receiving from other teams, United may be able to sell him for considerably more.

Add a buy-back clause if the team believes he has the capacity to leave his impact on the game. With Amad Diallo expected to return, Elanga's immediate future is undoubtedly outside the club.
