Brighton CEO addresses Mac Allister's transfer rumors as United retain Ivan Toney's interest

Paul Barber, the CEO of Brighton, has spoken out about the Alexis Mac Allister transfer rumors.

As demand for his talents grows, the Argentina international appears certain to leave the Seagulls this summer.

The two teams who are most interested in Mac Allister are Manchester United and Liverpool, however Chelsea, Arsenal, and Juventus have also been mentioned.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Brighton CEO Barber discussed what the World Cup-winning midfielder might expect in the coming transfer window.

"With Alexis, we sat down before the World Cup with his father, Carlos, and his agent," Paul Barber stated.

“That was about making sure Alexis was as settled as possible before the World Cup goal.

“And afterwards, we ensured he got back focussed on the Premier League – to his credit he absolutely has done. Has performed very, very well.

“What the summer brings? We don’t know. What we do know is our players will come under a lot of scrutiny and interest."

“And we will manage that, as we always do, when and if it happens.”

Mac Allister has not yet received a price tag from Brighton, but a transfer seems very probable given the desire of Man United and Liverpool to strengthen their midfields.

Carlos Mac Allister, who acknowledged that his son wants to leave the Amex Stadium and even mentioned Boca Juniors, where the 24-year-old spent a year on loan, aroused speculation.

“Surely Alexis will return to play in Boca at some point,” he told Puro Boca (via bolavip).

“Today he is just beginning his career in Europe, but on the way back when he decides to settle in Argentina again, he will surely want to play in Boca, even if it is for a while, to finish thanking and demonstrating the level that it can have in a club of this nature in Argentina.

“Normally the next [transfer window] will find him playing in another institution, we don’t know which one.

“The talks are just beginning in general, but it is most likely that Alexis will already be playing in another team next July.”

Man United still interested in Ivan Toney

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has a striker at the top of his list of must-have players. This is because of Manchester United's well-known problems up front.

According to most sources, Harry Kane of Tottenham and Victor Osimhen are vying for the job at Old Trafford.

It will not be simple or inexpensive to pry either player away in the summer because both clubs are infamous for their transfer transactions and the pair are projected to cost well over €100 million.

However, there are issues with the club's takeover and the next transfer fund that will be made accessible. United will need to have backup plans available because to the FFP limits and the necessity to sell well.

Ivan Toney of Brentford is one of these players that the Red Devils have reportedly looked at throughout the course of the season and are willing to sanction a deal for.

The Bees striker has 32 games across all competitions with 20 goals and 5 assists.

Toney is currently in third place for the Premier League Golden Boot with 19 goals, trailing only Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

The Red Devils "are big admirers" of the England international but are wary of the entire situation because of the ongoing gambling investigations.

“Brentford have placed a £50million asking price for Toney ahead of the summer transfer window, and United would be tempted to match that fee had it not been for the ongoing investigation.

The Manchester club has been keeping a close eye on his availability but is exceedingly hesitant to make an offer while his gambling investigation is ongoing," the source stated.

In November, the FA brought 262 allegations against the striker after discovering violations of its rules regarding football wagering. Since then, Toney has agreed to several of the accusations; if found guilty, he may be subject to a protracted suspension.

United does not want to approve a costly transaction just to lose his services later on because of the prohibition.

It will be intriguing to see how this tale develops. Chelsea and Newcastle were reportedly also interested. Toney's success deserves a transfer to a major league team, but much will rely on how the probe turns up.

Meanwhile, A talented young Swedish midfielder is being pursued by a number of clubs, including Manchester United, according to the club's sporting director.

Otto Rosengren, 19, has been a standout player for Allsvenskan club Mjallby AIF in Sweden's top division, drawing interest from Holland, Denmark, and Erik ten Hag's Premier League team.

Hans Larsson, the sporting director for Mjallby, steadfastly refused to rule out selling the talented kid, reasoning that the Red Devils' interest demonstrated Rosengren's progress.

There have been clubs in Denmark, England, and the Netherlands looking at him, Larsson told Tipsbladet. He has drawn the attention of Viborg, AGF, and Manchester United among others.

"There is nothing concrete about him. There have been some rumours, and then several clubs have looked at him."

Hans Larsson explained that he does not know if the side will let Rosengren leave in the summer transfer window - which is mid-season in Sweden. Larsson said: "We must wait and see. It’s his first year as a real first-team player in Allsvenskan, and I’m not so sure he wants to leave either. We’ll have to wait and see what happens."

While he had never seen a member of Man United, Larsson claimed that they had visited him multiple times in a different interview with Fotbollskanalaen. The sports director described the Premier League club's interest as "really nice," adding that it was "wonderful" because it showed that Mjallby's operations were successful and that he was their own creation.

Although 'nothing concrete' has been decided in either direction, he said he didn't want to put the 19-year-old under 'too much pressure' and anticipated him to remain in place past the end of the year.
