Erik Ten Hag hints at Anthony Martial's future and Harry Maguire's impacts off the pitch

Manchester United's manager Erik Ten Hag has indicated that he is happy with Harry Maguire's progress this season, despite the England international getting just 11 starts across all competitions this season under the Dutch tactician.

While speaking during his press conference ahead of his side's Sunday evening clash with Fulham in the Emirates FA Cup, Erik Ten Hag suggested that he was happy with team captain Harry Maguire while as well shading some light on striker Anthony Martial's future.

Quizzing the 53-year-old regarding Harry Maguire's comments at fulltime after the Red Devils recorded a 1-0 victory against Real Betis in Seville on Thursday night to seal their progress to the quarterfinals of the Europa League despite Marcus Rashford's rocket, Harry Maguire stated he is having more impact on the team regardless of whether he gets game times or not.

Having lost his place in the team's starting lineup to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire has struggled to get some regular playing time, but Erik Ten Hag has expressed his delight with the 30-year-old this season.

"Definitely," when asked if Harry Maguire's comments were true.

"I'm really happy with the progress that Harry is making at this moment." "He's more dominant and dictating; he's taking more initiative on the training pitch, and I think also yesterday in the Real Betis game, he showed leadership, especially in those aspects of initiative and dictating the game."

Erik Ten Hag further addressed a topic regarding Anthony Martial's future and contributions to the team this season. The former AS Monaco star has been in and out of the team due to injury. Although he has rejoined the group in training, the 27-year-old is yet to be called back into the matchday squad.

"I don't think it is the right moment," Erik Ten Hag replied when asked if Martial will return to the matchday squad anytime soon.

"If that were to be the case, I would believe in him." Every time he is available, he really gives a good contribution to the team performance, the level of the team are upgrading the moment he is available.  We are just working with him to get fit and to be available.

Manchester United will take on Fulham in the Emirates FA Cup quarterfinals at Old Trafford on Sunday in their bid to secure a semifinal spot and covet yet another trophy.
