A second Casemiro's red card and a backfired Erik Ten Hag's tactics, where does United go from here

Manchester United managed to secure a draw following Casemiro's red card in the 32nd minute. The closest the Red Devils came to winning was when Bruno Fernandes' shot hit the bar, while Peter Walker, James Ward-Prowse, and Theo Walcott saw their attempts prevented from hitting the back of the net.

Despite Erik Ten Hag fielding five attacking-minded players in his starting eleven, the Red Devils drew a blank in front of goal. It was a slow start by Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford coming the closest to giving the Red Devils the lead. Southampton were sitting back, anticipating to absorb the pressure being piled on them by the Red Devils, but Casemiro's dismissal gave them a chance to move forward.

It appears Erik Ten Hag was aiming to exploit Southampton's porous defense, which conceded 41 goals in 25 league games this season. But it backfired after Manchester United went one man down and the Saints tried to take advantage of that.

The two sides ended the first half 0-0, with Manchester United being denied a penalty kick. They both applied pressure to get the winner in the second half, with David De Gea stepping up for Manchester United to deny Theo Walcott a goalscoring opportunity after Southampton broke away from a sluggish Manchester United's corner kick attempt.

They both finally shared the spoils, with the Saints remaining at the bottom of the league table while Manchester United will have to worry about a top-four finish as Arsenal's victory over Fulham has opened a 16-point game between them and the third-place Red Devils.

Although Erik Ten Hag's side could still be judged for not following up their 7-0 loss to Liverpool last weekend with a win against Southampton, it gives Erik Ten Hag the chance to focus on the Europa League and FA Cup.

They could be favorites to win the Europa League if they progress against Real Betis, whom they have already beaten 3-1 in the first leg at Old Trafford. There are still the likes of Juventus and Bayern Leverkusen, who already have one leg in the competition's quarterfinals. Arsenal are still in the competition, but it's safe to say they will want the league more.

The FA Cup is also another cup available for Erik Ten Hag's men; Fulham is the next opponent in the quarterfinals of the competition, but there is also Manchester City, who will play Burnley in another match of the FA Cup semifinals.
