Opinion: What's Marcus Rashford's best position at Man United

Manchester United's number ten, Marcus Rashford, is having one of the best goal-scoring seasons in Manchester United's history. The last time he netted over 20 goals for Manchester United was during the 2019–2020 season under Erik Ten Hag.

It is a debate where the England international's best position is across Manchester United's frontline. The 25-year-old has scored from the number 9 position, from his traditional left wing, as well as from the right. However, critics will argue he is not always efficient from the right as he rarely contributes to the team's attack and is often isolated.

After Marcus Rashford scored his 20th goal of the campaign in the 2-2 stalemate with Leeds United, Erik ten Hag was questioned about Rashford's position.

Alejandro Garnacho was introduced on the left in the absence of Antony due to injury, and the England star, who can play anywhere along the front line, started on the right. At the beginning of the second half, Marcus switched to the left, but when substitutes Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri entered the game to play on the wings, he eventually moved to the center.

The 25-year-old was an easy pick for discussion after the game because of his excellent performance. Erik Ten Hag did not agree with the suggestion that Marcus Rashford is not as effective when on the right, stating: “Against Burnley, he scored from the right." Great goals. Marcus can score from anywhere; it doesn’t matter if it is to the right, to the center, or to the left. "He is scoring everywhere, and today he scored again."

"It’s difficult to analyze, but I think after we made that change, it’s different for the opponent; it’s difficult for the opponent because the dynamic changed." "The defenders are in a certain way," Erik Ten Hag added.

"They are anticipating a certain attack, then all of a sudden everything is changing, where we moved not only Rashford but we brought in [Jadon] Sancho and we brought in [Facundo] Pellistri." "If that changes the game, as we did Saturday as well, then he takes advantage of that situation, I think."

Manchester United will have to play Leeds United again this weekend in the Premier League at Elland Road. Erik Ten Hag was quizzed on whether Marcus Rashford would play in his traditional left wing role or settle for a different role.

“First off, we will analyze this game and reflect on it." Then we will see how the team is doing, and then we will start our efforts," Erik Ten Hag replied.

"I'm very pleased Marcus is scoring from all the positions. You see his stats; he's scoring from the left, right, and middle. It doesn't matter. He's always a good option to play on the right. "We can move him around and give a different dynamic in a game."

Marcus Rashford's importance hasn't been underrated this season, as he has been instrumental for Erik Ten Hag's side when it comes to forcing in the needed goals. His form since the World Cup has been terrific; he has scored 12 times in 14 games, including six consecutive home games. Which saw him equal Wayne Rooney's 11 year old record at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old will be fired up to break his personal best of 22 goals in a single campaign under Ole Solskjaer. He is currently on 20 goals, and with Manchester United still in several competitions, he will likely create a new personal record.
