Bruno Fernandes has now contributed to a goal in six straight Premier League games following his Saturday afternoon goal in Manchester United's triumph over Crystal Palace. The Portuguese star has 32 appearances in all competitions this season, with seven goals and seven assists.
It is quite remarkable that this is the first time Fernandes has accomplished that distinction given that he scored 40 goals during his first 18 months with the Reds. Although he has scored less goals this season than in previous ones, especially when compared to them, he is arguably playing at his highest level yet.
Along with many of his teammates, the midfielder has progressed greatly under Erik ten Hag, and Fernandes has led United for the bulk of the season without Harry Maguire. The 28-year-old has established himself as a crucial leader and has added goals and assists to his resume.
In United's previous six Premier League games, Bruno Fernandes has contributed three goals and three assists, helping Ten Hag's team defeat Wolves, Bournemouth, Man City, and most recently Crystal Palace. Although he won't likely reach his 45 goal contributions from the 2020–21 season, the former Sporting Lisbon captain has found his goal-scoring form.
The Portuguese star scored three goals and three assists before the World Cup break. Despite his lower return, his performances were still strong. The midfielder stated that he was more involved under Erik Ten Hag even if he was aware that they were not as high as they had been in former seasons.
Bruno Fernandes was performing at a level where his numbers were hardly noted, but now that he has started to score again, it may be just the push the Reds need heading into the season's last few months.
"If we’re talking about statistics, in my first year it was amazing," the playmaker told NBC Sports. "Probably now, I’m not getting as many goals and assists but I’m playing much better and I am more involved in the game than I was before."
"It’s more important that the team wins. That makes your week. It’s easier to go to training and see the same faces when you win than it is when you lose," he explained.
Manchester United is currently third in the Premier League, eight points behind league leaders Arsenal despite having played one more game, and appears to be in position to make the Champions League for the next year.
Additionally, the Reds are still in the running for the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup, making them the only top-flight team that is still involved in all four competitions.
For the first time since 2017, Manchester United has a real chance to break their trophy drought and win some silverware. The first chance to do so will come later this month when Erik Ten Hag's team plays Newcastle United at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final. It's likely that Fernandes will start that match as captain, and it would mean a lot to him if he could guide the team to victory.
Since coming to Old Trafford in 2020, Bruno Fernandes has made 158 appearances and has tallied 57 goals and 46 assists. The tremendous progress he has made since his return is not likely to slow down in the near future. Since Ten Hag took over as manager, the midfielder's overall performance levels have improved, and with the midfielder now contributing goals and assists, it can only be good for the Reds.
The success of Man United has always been the Portuguese star's top priority; whether he or one of his colleagues contributes to that achievement has never been significant to Fernandes.
