"His confidence suffered"- John Barnes blames Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernandes for Sancho's United's struggles

Manchester United's winger Jadon Sancho has made a remarkable return after being kept out of the team for over three months due to struggle with injuries and mental health.

The England international made an impressive cameo against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi finals return tie, then made his Premier League return against Leeds United. The 22 year old was instrumental for the Red Devils as they fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point at Old Trafford during the mid week clash.

Jadon Sancho scored Man United's second goal of the night to help the draw level with Leeds United after Marcus Rashford's goal. However, Manchester United failed to win the game but the former Borussia Dortmund's winger had a remarkable night.

John Barnes, a former Liverpool winger, claimed that when Jadon Sancho first joined the Manchester United team, he was "overshadowed" by Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.

In the 2-2 stalemate with Leeds United on Wednesday, Jadon Sancho made his comeback from injury, netting the equalizer for Erik ten Hag's team. It was his first goal since joining the team again earlier this month after a protracted absence.

The 22-year-old traveled to the Netherlands during his time away from the first squad to work on a personal training regimen with trainers Ten Hag had chosen. In 16 games this season, the former Borussia Dortmund star has scored four goals and provided an assist, so he will be hoping to continue his scoring streak with United.

Following his transfer from Germany, Jadon Sancho has struggled to find success at Old Trafford, scoring just nine goals in 54 games. Barnes, a former Liverpool player, has supported the United player to keep getting better while also alleging that his confidence suffered as a result of being overshadowed by Ronaldo and Fernandes.

"He's a fantastic player and he has got great potential," Barnes told BonusCodeBets. "He came to United at a time where the club as a whole was struggling. He came in for £75million where he was put into the team and he was expected to be one of the main players."

"He was overshadowed by the likes of Ronaldo and Fernandes so his confidence suffered because he’s a young player. They're [United] now handling him with care. He's going to be playing with a lot more confidence and the future looks bright at United with young players being given their chance," John Barnes explained.

The winger for the Red Devils played 37 times with Ronaldo while the two were teammates at Old Trafford, and 52 of those games were in the same lineup as Bruno Fernandes.

Following his contentious interview with Piers Morgan in November, Cristiano Ronaldo quit the team. The Portuguese superstar joined Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia, where he has scored five goals in four games.
