David De Gea and Manchester United are close to agreeing on a new, long-term contract.
De Gea is close to pledging his future to the team, despite a Calciomercato report that suggested United were considering replacing him with Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Man United and De Gea are "really close" to agreeing on a new contract.
He told GIVEMESPORT: "At the moment for De Gea, the agreement is really close.
"As we know, Man Utd are looking to extend De Gea and sign a new backup goalkeeper.
"So, this is the idea. For De Gea, it's about the final details."
De Gea's current deal expires at the end of the current campaign, but a new one appears to be in the works, meaning he will remain at Old Trafford. It is unknown if his present weekly salary of £375,000 would be increased.
For recording the most clean sheets, the 32-year-old received the Premier League Golden Glove award. The second-placed Alisson Becker had three less clean sheets than his Manchester United counterpart, who had 17.
Speaking recently, Manchester United's captain, Harry Maguire had plenty of praise for his defensive teammate. The Englishman said: "He's been amazing this season. I think of the things I can say about him."
"He's made big saves in big moments and that's what David does. When we need him and he's called upon, he makes big saves. He's had an amazing season and It's one I'm sure he'll be really proud of."
Although De Gea has received accolades, there are still uncertainties about his long-term position in the Premier League.
No goalkeeper in the Premier League has committed more errors leading to goals than the Spaniard's four, which came to light after his horrendous error against West Ham that allowed Said Benrahma to score.
De Gea was outstanding for United this season despite everything. It's tough to imagine a scenario in which Erik ten Hag and his team would have finished in the top four this season without his 17 shutouts.
Retaining De Gea's services is a wise decision, especially given the more urgent issues the team must solve during the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund, who is presently playing for Serie A team Atalanta, has reportedly had several video chats with Ten Hag, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Hojlund has additionally stated in the past that he hopes to join Manchester United: " My father introduced me (to Ronaldo) when he was at United. Then, me and my best friend followed him when he was at Madrid."
"I just like his mentality. I love that he’s so eager to score a goal. The thing for me is he is so passionate about wanting to be the best, and I like it."
"I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan."
"So personally, (moving to Old Trafford) would be one of the biggest things for me. But that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point."
Rasmus Hojlund has only scored eight goals in 30 Serie A appearances so far, and Atalanta are apparently seeking between €65 million and €70 million for the player. He is still very inexperienced.
A shift for Hojlund is now more plausible, though, as he recently joined the SEC agency, which also represents Ten Hag.
The Dutchman's successful first season as Man United's manager and the team's qualification for the Champions League, according to the manager of Manchester United, helped transfer targets respond more favorably than they did last year.
"I see a big difference in comparison with last year.
"There were a lot of reservations last year when I spoke with players and now many players see the project, what's going on, the dynamic and the ambition in this project, the quality especially. They are really keen to come, I've noticed that."
"It looks like there were a lot of reservations last year, a lot of doubts when we approached players. This year, many quality players really want to come."
With Victor Osimhen, Randal Kolo Muani, Goncalo Ramos, and Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund among the other strikers on Manchester United's radar, Erik ten Hag appears to be prepared for a scenario in which Harry Kane either stays at Spurs or moves to a rival club.
