Raphael Varane praises Ten Hag as Marcus Rashford faces doubt for Bournemouth trip

The latest Marcus Rashford blow for Manchester United comes after Erik ten Hag disclosed he is unwell.

Prior to their trip to Bournemouth, the 25-year-old returned to training after suffering a leg injury.

The Red Devils are playing the Cherries with the intention of maintaining their chances of finishing in the top four, but they may encounter difficulties.

Ten Hag was unable to say whether Rashford will be fit to play when asked about the journey to the south coast.

“Rashy trained well the whole week but today he reported he is ill. We have to see how he recovers during the day and see tomorrow," Erik Ten Hag stated during his presser on Friday afternoon.

With a staggering 29 goals throughout all competitions this season, the England international has been outstanding for United.

His recent play has been affected by injury, though, and he was out of last week's 2-0 victory over Wolves.

Marcel Sabitzer, who was recently confirmed to be out for the remainder of the season, is also on the list of United's absences.

Ten Hag has provided excellent news on two more talents, but Lisandro Martinez has been sidelined till the rest of the season as well.

“So a positive, [Raphael] Varane definitely available, Scott [McTominay] joined in training, if training goes well he will be in.”

Erik ten Hag's first season in charge of Manchester United has received praise from Raphael Varane.

Following difficult stints under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, the Dutchman joined a club in trouble. There were several fan demonstrations against the Glazers, and Cristiano Ronaldo-related problems were on the horizon.

Although losing two straight games wasn't the best start, Ten Hag has subsequently come back to shine in the Old Trafford hot seat. United has already won one trophy, the Carabao Cup, and might add the FA Cup to its collection next month.

The possibility of a Manchester City treble gives the Wembley matchup more punch, as Pep Guardiola aims to equal the only treble the Red Devils have ever won. On a personal level, Varane and summertime addition Lisandro Martinez have developed a strong alliance.

The former Real Madrid player has recently been limited by injuries, but he made a comeback for the 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. Varane hailed Ten Hag's effect since his hiring last year in a statement made prior to the trip to Bournemouth.

“It’s been a great season with him (Ten Hag),” the centre-back said. “From day one he was clear in his reasoning and explanations of what he wanted from us and how he wanted us to play. We’ve learnt his style and I think it’s come together well.”

Varane’s compatriot Anthony Martial also insisted United’s Champions League dream is “in their hands” - dismissing pressure from Liverpool. The forward bagged his fifth goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Wolves.

“Winning our next games is important to achieve our season objective,” Martial added. “It’s in our own hands and we will do everything we can to try and achieve the top four.”

With three games left, United, who is fourth and has a point advantage over Liverpool, can clinch a berth in the Champions League for the next year.

Following their meeting at Bournemouth, they will host matches against Chelsea and Fulham, who will arrive on the last day.
