Martial and Sancho expected to leave during summer but Marcus Rashford is close to signing new deal

At Manchester United, Jadon Sancho has had a difficult two years. Manager Erik ten Hag removed him from the team midway through the season so that the kid could follow a personal training regimen.

Upon his return to the first-team roster in February, Sancho's performance improved, although Ten Hag clearly prefers Marcus Rashford and Antony for the left and right sides, respectively.

There are no assurances that Sancho will stay with the team once the summer transfer market closes, and rumors suggest that Borussia Dortmund may be interested in re-signing him.

But there are a lot of things that could prevent him from joining the team where he first gained notoriety, with money being the largest one.

Sancho agreed to a significant pay increase, and his transfer fee is said to have nearly halved since making the high-profile move in 2021. Leading German journalist Christian Falk claims that a permanent return to Dortmund is doubtful and that a loan move would depend on the England star's pay decreasing.

“Although there haven’t yet been any direct talks with Jadon Sancho about a summer transfer, Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl is always in contact with his advisors from the Project Elite Group,” Falk told CaughtOffside.

“One thing is clear: there will definitely not be a buyback for the time being. Sancho (under contract at Man United until 2026) is still worth in the region of €55m and that would be too expensive for BVB.

“Therefore only a loan would be conceivable at this point, but to do this Sancho would have to cut his €21m salary in half.

“Dortmund also wouldn’t pay the €14m expected for a year’s loan though a maximum of €10m could be considered.”

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford's contract negotiations with Manchester United are apparently moving along, and they intend to start him with Harry Kane in the upcoming campaign.

The club wants to keep the 25-year-old forward at Old Trafford until his current contract expires, and the Telegraph reports that negotiations are "headed in the right direction." Rashford's deal expires at the end of the upcoming campaign, although it's anticipated that he will stay at Old Trafford.

According to the report, any new contract for Rashford will likely bring him on par with players like David de Gea, who is reportedly making £375,000 a week, and the rest of the team's top earners. Additionally, United wants the attacker to play next to Kane, who is still the club's top target for a striker this summer.

Kane is reportedly Erik ten Hag's top aim for a striker to bolster the United assault this summer. The 29-year-old is reportedly interested in being signed by the Dutchman as his contract year is drawing near. The Reds are still interested in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Joao Palhinha, a star midfielder, is reportedly wanted by a number of teams, according to a report from Football Insider, and Fulham will demand more than £50 million for him this summer.

Palhinha reportedly has interest from United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea after an impressive Premier League first season. Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich has also been mentioned as a potential destination. The article also states that the Portugal international is eager to play for a top team in Europe.

At Craven Cottage, Palhinha, who joined from Sporting CP last summer, is bound by a contract through 2027. This season, he has made 36 appearances across all competitions and scored four goals.

Paul Merson slams Anthony Martial

Paul Merson, a former Arsenal player, said Anthony Martial "shouldn't be playing for Manchester United" following the Reds' Thursday night loss at Brighton.

Erik ten Hag's team appeared to be leaving the Amex Stadium with a point, but in stoppage time, the Seagulls scored a penalty after Luke Shaw handled the ball inside the penalty area. The Reds suffered their eighth league loss of the year as a result of Alexis Mac Allister's coolly executed penalty kick conversion.

United, who are currently two points back of third-place Newcastle, had several decent scoring chances during the game but once again unable to score. Wout Weghorst was passed over in favor of Anthony Martial, who was making just his eighth Premier League start of the year.

Manchester United's current front three is Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Antony, but I think there will be changes this summer, one million per cent," Merson wrote for Sportskeeda. "They are 16 points behind Manchester City at the moment and the same team next season will not get anywhere close to the Premier League title.

"They need a Harry Kane up front. Anthony Martial - seriously? He shouldn't be playing for Manchester United, sorry."

Anthony Martial has registered seven goals and three assists in 24 appearances this season, but he has missed a host of matches through various injuries. The Reds have scored just 49 top-flight goals this term, which is significantly the lowest in the current top-seven.
